<p><strong>Info: </strong>HOUSEFIRE, Portland’s newest publishing company, is proud to announce the release of their first book, NOUNS OF ASSEMBLAGE. The book is a collection of sixty-eight stories from sixty-three authors, thirteen of which live here in Portland. All of the stories in the book were inspired by and titled with collective nouns from the animal kingdom, such as A MURDER OF CROW, AN AMBUSH OF TIGERS, and A PLAGUE OF LOCUSTS, written by some of the strongest voices in small press fiction.</p>

<p><strong>Info: </strong>Scott McClanahan comes all the way from West Virginia to make his first ever northwest appearance. He’s the author of the underground classics, <em>Stories</em> and <em>Stories II</em>. His newest book is <em>Stories V</em>. Kevin Sampsell describes McClanahan as “one of the most exciting and naturally talented new writers I’ve read in a long time.”</p>
<p>He will be joined by Patrick deWitt (author of <em>Sisters Brothers</em>, <em>Ablutions</em>) and Jenny Forrester (creator of the zine, <em>Guns, God, and Irony</em>) for this special outdoor event (on Ampersand’s beautiful back patio).</p>
<p>Sampsell has organized this event, and will be introducing each of the authors. This is a free, all ages event. Free beer from Ninkasi (for 21 and over).</p>

His own books include the short story collections <em>Beautiful Blemish</em> and <em>Creamy Bullets, </em>and the memoir <em>A Common Pornography.</em> In 2009, he edited the anthology <em>Portland Noir</em>. He works for Powell&#8217;s Books and lives in Portland, Oregon.</p>
