Duff Dinners, a new quarterly reading/dinner series debuts next Saturday (5-15).  This series is the result of the writing of a book that deals with the way landscapes affect the stories of our lives, which led author Kristin Kaye into discussions with Good Food promoter Blake Van Roekel, conservationist foresters Peter and Pam Hayes, and writer, editor, and publisher Matthew Stadler.

Attendees will partake in this ongoing discussion while being treated to an exploration of Hyla Woods with the Hayes, a forest and farm-sourced 4-course dinner with wine pairings prepared by Van Roekel, readings from Kaye’s novel-in-progress To Catch What Falls, and discussion into the night led by Matthew Stadler who will navigate the confluence of words, trees, food, ideas and books (learn more about the hosts here).

Tickets for the evening are $115 and in addition to the above include an EcoShuttle to and from Hyla Woods, and a softcover edition of To Catch What Falls (part 1), a work-in-progress, printed and bound for the dinner by Publication Studio.  Seating is limited, and reservations close tomorrow (5-7), so ensure your seat at the table by contacting Blake today at blake at goodkeuken.com or call (503) 753-1655.  If you can’t make it this time, it looks like they have a BBQ planned for July 17th.

Gabe Barber started Reading Local in January of 2009 as a vehicle for exploring Portland's literary scene. He's not an aspiring author, and you won't find his work on a bookshelf or in any prestigious lit rag. He is however, a full on book nerd, with a passion for independent literature.
