With the sad news about the Great Northwest Bookstore casting a dark cloud over Portland’s lit community we are surely in need of something to cheer us up, and nothing can cure the blues like a new place to shop for books!  Enter Monograph Bookwerks, a new bookstore located on 27th and Alberta, dedicated to modern and contemporary artists.  The store is the brain child of John Brodie (owner of Le Happy) and Blair Saxon Hill, and in addition to “some architecture, design, photography, artist biographies and art criticism titles,” will also feature “studio pottery and mid-century ceramics, fine objects and some artworks.”

If you are looking to open a bookstore in Portland, Alberta seems to be the place to do so.  With Monograph joining Ampersand and Green Bean Books as recently opened bookstores in the historic district.

Monograph officially opens for business tomorrow (5-5) at 11am, so make sure to get down there and welcome this new entrant into Portland’s lit community, and maybe buy a book or two while you’re there!
