Today’s Featured Book Event:

Louis Sachar (Central Library, @1:00pm): The sequel to Holes, Louis Sachar’s National Book Award and Newbery Medal winning novel, is coming to the Oregon Children’s Theatre! Small Steps is the continuing story of life after Camp Green Lake. Upon his release from the camp, Armpit decides to improve his life — one small step at a time. Join us before the world premiere for a discussion with this engaging author and the play’s director to learn more about the fascinating book-to-stage adaptation process and the further adventures of the story’s funny and down-to-earth characters.

Other Book Events Today:

Chronicles of Van Helsing Signing (Cosmic Monkey Comics, @12:00pm): Tony Morgan, Adam Watson and Alan Bennett will be on hand to sign copies of Chronicles of Van Helsing. In addition, we will also have several comics from both the Darkslinger and Gunbaby Universes.

Christy Evans (Murder by the Book, @1:00pm): Christy Evans sets her mysteries in the fictional town of Pine Ridge. Her heroine, Georgiana Neverall, is a former dot-com executive, who is now opting for a simpler life as a plumber’s apprentice. In Lead-Pipe Cinch, Evans’ second book in her series, while building a moat for a rich man’s castle, Georgiana discovers the body of the man who stole her former company from her. Georgiana must again lay down her pipe wrench and pick up her detecting skills to clear herself of suspicion.

Mini-Sledgehammer Contest (Floyd’s Coffee Shop, @3:00pm): We’ll feature some literary inspiration and then provide you with four prompts to write your own story within the 36-minute time limit. Contestants will then read their stories to compete for prizes. Mini Sledgehammers are free to enter and open to all ages. Save the date for the Sledgehammer 36-Hour Writing Contest! Arjia Rinpoche (Powell’s Books on Hawthorne, @7:30pm): Providing a rare window into a tumultuous period of Chinese history, Surviving the Dragon (Rodale) tells the remarkable life story of Arjia Rinpoche, who was ordained as a reincarnate lama at the age of two and fled Tibet 46 years later.
