I stopped into the Powell’s Books on Hawthorne yesterday, and while browsing around trying to keep the lil guys hands off of all the books, I came across their wonderful little zine and lit journal section.  My eyes were immediately drawn to Poor Claudia‘s most recent issue (PC3), as the cover is visually stunning and reeks of importance. After thumbing through their two previous issues as well, I quickly developed a lit crush on this relatively new addition to Portland’s lit community, and so figured I would share 5 reasons why you should love them too.

  1. The aforementioned Issue #3 was just released, and features the likes of Brandon Downing, Andrew Michael Roberts, Paige Taggart, among several others.
  2. Each issue of Poor Claudia is a brand new experience.  New format, layout, design, and feel, pulled off with simplistic perfection.
  3. They just published Emily Kendal Frey’s Frances, a gorgeous, staple bound chapbook with French flaps.
  4. Their blog is a fun mix of event/new release announcements, spotlights on “PC-approved” writers, and reactions to books on their nightstand.
  5. They offer a subscription to all of their 2010 publications for $25!
