I am working on a full recap of last night festivities to post later, but I did want to share with you all real quick what an awesome success last nights Read to Rebuild benefit was.  $1076 was raised to aid Mercy Corps in their Haiti Relief Efforts! To put this number in perspective, according to the Mercy Corps website:

  • $16 supplies a “comfort kit” — which includes a blanket, sketchpad, crayons and toys — to a child in Haiti.
  • $75 equips and pays a Port-au-Prince resident for two weeks of recovery work.

So thanks to the generous donations received last night 67 children could get a reprieve from the devastation that surrounds their lives, or 14 Port-au-Prince residents could be put to work helping to bring some semblance of normal back to the country.  To learn more about what Mercy Corps is up to in Haiti, check out their website.

If you were unable to make it last night but would like to contribute, you can still make a donation through Reading Local’s Mercy Corps Fundraiser Page.
