New Release:

Bone Worship (Pegasus Books), a new novel by Elizabeth Eslami is now available for purchase.  Ms. Eslami will be reading from Bone Worship this Thursday (1-14) at 7:30pm at Powell’s Books on Hawthorne.

Description:

This rich and poignant novel examines the experiences of Iranian immigrants and their children in the United States, addressing issues of cultural and familial identity.  A young Iranian-American woman, Jasmine Fahroodhi, struggles to understand her enigmatic Iranian father after he decides to arrange her marriage. Jasmine is confused, furious, yet intrigued, and realizes she can only understand who she is when she begins to explore her heritage.  Ultimately this process opens her eyes to the mysteries of familial and romantic love, as well as her father’s strange and exotic past.

About The Author:

Iranian-American writer Elizabeth Eslami is the author of Bone Worship: A Novel, as well as numerous short stories. She grew up in Gaffney, South Carolina, and has lived in New York, Maryland, Montana, and New Mexico. She received her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and her M.F.A. from Warren Wilson College. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in magazines in the U.S. and abroad, including Apostrophe, Thin Air, The Steel City Review, G.W. Review, Bat City Review, Weber: The Contemporary West, Coe Review, Beeswax Magazine, Neon, The Minnesota Review, Natural Bridge, Segue, and Crab Orchard Review. She currently lives in Oregon with her husband and their big, black dog.
