What Portland Bookstore Do You Shop At?

By: Gabe Barber

Everyone has different reasons for shopping at one bookstore or another.  For some it’s primarily location, i.e. it’s my “neighborhood bookstore.”  For others it may be about selection.  Yet another reason could be the quality of booksellers employed at the store, or a connection with the store’s owner.  Or perhaps price is the main driver. With these thoughts in mind, I thought I would open up a post for you to chime in on what Portland bookstore you shop at and why.

My answer would be the Powell’s Cedar Hills Crossing store, with the primary reason being that it’s the closest indie store to my house.  I try to get around to several of the other Portland indie bookstores as often as I can, but when my wife gives me an hour break from being a stay-at-home dad I know that I can spend more of that hour with my nose in a book rather than smelling the exhaust from the car in front of me, if I go to the Cedar Hills store.  As an added bonus, their selection of both books and magazines is fantastic.

What about you?
