PDX Writer Daily, the blog that for years has covered Portland’s lit community with a unique blend of interviews, reviews, comics, and much more, has shifted gears and is now Propeller Magazine. Many of the same contributors that made PDXWD such a lively and entertaining site to follow have stayed on to help Propeller come to fruition.
Promising a take on “books, music, art, and life,” Propeller will be a quarterly publication with issues released in October, January, April and July. The first issue features fiction from Mary Rechner, poems by Zach Savich and Geoffrey Hilsabeck, an interview with Adrienne Hatkin of the Portland band Autopilot is for Lovers, a look at two new Tin House anthologies, and much much more.
As great as Propeller looks to be, it’s still sad to not have PDX Writer Daily around. I’m a big believer in the idea that the more quality blogs we have out there covering Portland’s active lit community, the more likely it is that those activities will get coverage and find an audience. To that end, if you haven’t found them already the Portland Examiner has two blogs helping to do just that, with Sara Gundell focusing on “Books“, and Karen Gilb on “Writers“. And of course there are all of these blogs as well.
All that said though, I wish the folks behind PDXWD and now Propeller the best of luck. You’re off to a great start with the first issue!
