Upon being followed on Twitter by Judy Nedry, I worked my way through a series of links to eventually stumble upon two posts on the Transmutation Services website describing their crafting of the marketing campaign to promote Nedry’s latest book “An Unholy Alliance,” published in May of this year. It’s an interesting peek inside one author’s attempt to get her book in front of a wider audience, using the technology available in today’s social media driven world.
The first post outlines the intial concept of the plan:
How do we now expand the awareness of Judy’s novel beyond the Pacific Northwest? Obviously, the website has the ability to reach an international audience but without a large internet budget we have to rely on our SEO expertise within the limits of the WordPress engine and the amount of time Judy can spend on pushing site content and pursuing linking relationships.
We began building a social media presence for Judy by signing her up for a Facebook account and a Twitter account; then charging her with the responsibility of gaining quality friends in both accounts.
The second post takes “you step-by-step through the development of [the] social media marketing campaign.”:
Now for the plan! What would attract someone to a first-time novelist’s first mystery novel? In addition to providing a sample of the book on her website we could give away copies! Everyone loves to win something! The contest we’ve developed will be a Twitter-based contest where a number of clues will be broadcast via Twitter (and subsequently posted to her website and FB accounts). If you read enough clues you may be able to guess who the evil-doer was! Guess who the killer was and you will win a hardbound copy of the book autographed by the author and some wine-related merchandise!
