literary_arts_podiumCongratulations to all of the finalists for the 2009 Oregon Book Awards, which are now up on the Literary Arts website.  Also announced were the winners of the the Stewart H. Holbrook Literacy Legacy Award, given to Matt Love; and the Walt Morey Young Readers Literary Legacy Award, given to The Dove Lewis Animal Assisted Therapy Program: Read to the Dogs Program.

Special Awards recipients will be recognized and winners in each genre will be announced at the Oregon Book Awards ceremony, Monday, October 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Gerding Theater at the Armory.  Tickets start at $17 and are available exclusively at brownpapertickets.com.

Gabe Barber started Reading Local in January of 2009 as a vehicle for exploring Portland's literary scene. He's not an aspiring author, and you won't find his work on a bookshelf or in any prestigious lit rag. He is however, a full on book nerd, with a passion for independent literature.
