The following are four original poems from Mike Daily. They are inspired by Steve Richmond, the Southern California “meat poet,” who Daily chronicled in Gagaku Meat: The Steve Richmond Story. You can read more of Daily’s poetry here, and watch him perform as part of Mr. Viced Honest at next Thursday’s Evening of Music, Words, and Glitch hosted by The Tonic Lounge. This post will be followed by a review of Gagaku Meat, accompanied by a Q&A with Daily, and a full preview of Thursday’s event.

DEMONS
he was thankful
he never heard
their guffaws
only saw their
jaws
moving
MR VICED HONEST
went to the Whiskey
to see Jim and the
Doors perform
the spotlight was
hot on his giggling
lunatic face
too much Jack
Daniel’s, LSD and
amyl nitrate
STRIKE ANYWHERE MATCHES
he admitted he
sometimes took
1 too many blasts
staggered back
to the kitchen
slaked his thirst
with water from a
Ramada Inn glass
is he a devil?
he asked himself
aloud as he typed:
is he a devil?
