contestwinnerCongratulations to Rose City Reader, who has pulled off the three-peat and won June’s Reading Local Contest!!  For being the most active participant on Reading Local for the month of June, Rose City Reader wins a $25 gift certificate to the bookstore of her choice, a $25 gift certificate provided by Broadway Books, a $25 gift certificate provided by The Title Wave Used Bookstore, and a $25 gift certificate provided by Annie Bloom’s Books. Rose City Reader has also become a Reading Local contributor, and her excellent reviews of Gregg Bell’s Water The Bamboo, and Robert J. Miller’s Native America Discovered and Conquered, can be found in the reviews section of the site.

Rose City Reader had some stiff competition from Ali, our second place finisher, who came up just two points short.  Ali has also become a Reading Local contributor, and her posts on Luis Alberto Urrea’s reading at Powell’s, and the upcoming Willamette Writer’s Conference have been wonderful additions to the content found on this blog.

Just in case your wondering, no you don’t have to become a contributor to have a chance at winning the contest :)   I am however going to make some changes to the contest, as promised in a previous post.

Starting with this month’s (July) contest, the winner will be able to choose which of the gift certificates being offered they would like.  The other four gift certificates will then be given out at random to other readers who have left comments, or added listings to the “Community News” widget on the sidebar.  I will do it the old fashioned way, by putting small pieces of paper into a hat (one for each comment left), and then which ever name I draw will be who wins the gift certificates.  Only one gift certificate will be allowed per person. I hope to be able to use my Flip Mino to film the drawing and then post it on the site for all to see.  So yes the overall dollar amount that can be won will be going down, but I think it might encourage more people to participate, which was really the purpose behind setting up the contest to begin with.  Feel free to leave a comment below on what you think about the changes, and get a point towards this month’s contest while you’re at it!

The reason there will be five gift certificates to give away this month is because Portland’s only independent children’s bookstore, the wonderful A Children’s Place Bookstore, has graciously agreed to contribute a $10 gift certificate to the contest.  I’m excited about A Children’s Place addition to the contest, as they are a great and unique part of Portland’s literary landscape, and want to thank them for being open to participating!  I would also like to thank my unofficial PR agent, Helen, who introduced A Children’s Place to Reading Local.

You can read the full details of the contest here.

I would like to send out a big thank you to June’s contest sponsors, Broadway Books, The Title Wave Used Bookstore, and Annie Bloom’s Books, for being such great supporters of the website!
