paul_ash_jobI just came across Sniffy Linings, a design studio and ePress run by Portland designer and author Paul Ash.

In addition to the requisite promotional material, the website features several eBooks available for download (some for free) from “sniffy writers and artists” who have kicked “the paper habit.”  Ash’s books can be found, along with work from Kenji Siratori, Dan Raphael, Jemiah Jefferson, Kevin Sampsell, and others.

There are also some great “very free sniffy Bathroom stickers” available for dowload.  My favorite being the one that offers this tasty morsel, “I could eat a box of Alphabits and crap a better book.”

Paul Ash’s 2004 release, What I Think About When I Go to the Job, was described by Erik Henriksen in The Portland Mercury as “one hell of a mess, and one so clever, entertaining, and original that the intentionally meandering disarray of Ash’s words quickly begins to work itself into something resembling a flowing stream of consciousness.”

Gabe Barber started Reading Local in January of 2009 as a vehicle for exploring Portland's literary scene. He's not an aspiring author, and you won't find his work on a bookshelf or in any prestigious lit rag. He is however, a full on book nerd, with a passion for independent literature.
