Registration is open for the Willamette Writer’s Conference, coming up August 7-9th at the Portland Airport Sheraton Hotel.

Wondering if it’s worth attending? Here’s the key question: are you a writer?

    1. No. I like to write, but I’m not a “writer.” I’m just a student/techie/mom/retired police offer/blogger/librarian who writes stuff, sometimes.
    2. Um, well, I have six chapters of a novel in my bedside table? But it might not be any good.
    3. Yes, and I’m dying to get paid for freelancing, find a writing group, fix chapter two, get ideas, learn how to write poetry, get feedback on my book idea, find an agent.
    4. Well, I do a mean grocery list, but other than that…

If you answered A, B, or C, you’ll be wanting that conference registration form. Detailed information about workshops is available in the online Conference brochure.. I’ll be working at the Consult desk on Friday and Saturday morning; do stop and say hello if you’re in the vicinity.

Oh, and if you answered D? Check out the Found Poetry Project. You may be more of a writer than you realize.

A resident of northeast Portland since 1992, Ali writes the literary blog Worducopia as well as fiction for young adults. When she's not reading or writing (and sometimes when she is), she's homeschooling her two boys, serving as president of the Oregon Home Education Network board of directors, singing with her choir, or heading out into the beautiful Pacific Northwest for a hike or a camping trip.
