Dave Jarecki Interviews The Writers’ Dojo Founder Jeff Selin

By: Gabe Barber

jeff_selinOver on DaveJarecki.com, Dave interveiews Jeff Selin who along with his wife, Rachel, founded the St. John’s literary incubator The Writers’ Dojo.  Among commentary on work/life balance, what it means to be a poet, the creative process, and several other topics, Selin offers this take on the Portland poetry community:

The community here is incredible. It blows me away. We hear time and time again where big name poets come to town and they’re shocked. Literary Arts puts on an event and the place is sold out. The poets can’t believe it. How are we selling out the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall for poetry? It’s unbelievable.

On a related side note, Jarecki is really turning his site into an amazing resource for Portland’s literary community.  In addition to the interview series (which brought us the Selin interview), he has also been posting submissions of original work from guest writers, along with his own work and commentary.  Definitely worth adding to your bookmarks.
