It doesn’t get much more “Portland + Literary” than this:

The Book In The Stump is from “Bookish Is A Compliment,” an exhibit of 2-D and 3-D works by Anna Gray and Ryan Wilson Paulsen to be shown at PDX Across the Hall from June 2 – June 27.

Gray and Paulsen are editors and co-founding members of Special Projects Press, and in addition to “Bookish Is A Compliment” have recently collaborated on the book Integrating a Burning House.  The book features two essays inspired by a 2008 fire that destroyed the house Gray and Paulsen were living in.  The essays are followed by photos of the burnt remains of their belongings. Reading Frenzy describes Integrating a Burning House as “an amazing little book centered around the loss of a home, the fire and the artifacts that remain.”

You can learn more about what Gray and Paulsen are up to here.

Gabe Barber started Reading Local in January of 2009 as a vehicle for exploring Portland's literary scene. He's not an aspiring author, and you won't find his work on a bookshelf or in any prestigious lit rag. He is however, a full on book nerd, with a passion for independent literature.
