This Saturday and Sunday the Friends of the Multnomah County Library will be holding their 8th annual East Multnomah County Used Book Sale.
20,000 donated books are up for grabs, with prices starting at $.50 for children’s books and pocket paperbacks and ranging from $1.50 to $6.00 for all other books. All proceeds from the sale go to support Multnomah County Library programs and events.
Many categories of books will be available, including:
* Popular Fiction
* Biography & History
* Math & Science
* Children’s
* Nature & Gardening
* Cookbooks
* Literature & Classics
* Mystery
* Romance
* Videos & Audio Tapes
* CDs & DVDs
Members of the Friends of the Library will have special access to the books from 9am-11am Saturday morning. If you’re not a member yet, but would like to take advantage of the early pickings, you can become a member at the sale.
The hours for the general public are:
11am – 6 pm Saturday
10 am to 4 pm Sunday.
On Sunday, everything will be 50 percent off.
Scanners and electronic devices will be allowed starting at 11 am Saturday and all day Sunday. They may be used only at the merchandise tables and only for one item at a time.
Items may not be set aside to be scanned later.
Books for cheap, and supporting a good cause, sounds like a win/win to me!

I went last year and it ws pretty good. A little haphazard, and pretty crowded, but a good sale. It looks like they have more donated books this year, which is good. I'll be there.

Rose City Reader,
For a book sale that isn't quite as hectic you might try Title Wave's Bag of Book's Sale Thursday April 30 and Friday May 1, from 10:00am to 4:00pm each day. They give you a grocery sized paper bag, and whatever you can fit in it is yours for $10! You can fill up to 10 bags worth of books too.
On the sale this weekend, maybe try the early entry portion from 9-11 Saturday morning to try and beat the rest of the crowd. All it requires is becoming a member of the Friends of the Library, something you can do that morning. Either way, the way you consume books, I'm sure you will find something that will make it all worthwhile :)
